I am currently in an enforced camping situation waiting to close on a house. I am only trying to keep with me things that are useful to me to conserve space. That being said, I did get 2 different types of these mainly because they were different sizes and lengths. This is the more slender and longer of the 2. I received it and put it to use the same day. Because all of my tools are in storage, I didn’t have a mallet for driving in my tent stakes. So, using this, I made one. it did a very good job crafting a fairly rough but very serviceable mallet out of one of my pieces of firewood and a piece of kindling for the handle after I had cut a peg with the eye. I can see this being very useful in my woodworking projects when I get into my new house and shop. I did have an issue with the auger part, however. this worked great when cutting across the grain of the wood, but I also tried making a rocket stove out of another piece of my firewood and found that though it cut right into the cross grain it was almost useless trying to get it to cut end grain after 20 minutes of trying to cut down through the end of the log I only got about 3/4 of an inch into the wood. I think that if it had cut a bit more aggressive, start tooth profile it would have powered through, but it simply wouldn’t bite into the end grain of the log. For those wanting to buy this, I do recommend it, but I want to make sure you know what you are getting. This does work well, and you can build a lot of things with it, tables, chairs, stools, hammers, etc. Just wanted you to know what it can’t do also. It does take a bit of muscle to cut through a log, but it does the. It came decently packed with a protective cap on the sharper (not sharp) part of the eye and another on the threaded point. The weld holding the eye on could have been cleaner, but it seems solid and helps together without any issues batoning the peg out of the piece of kindling. Overall, I am very happy with the product ; I will have to remain aware of its limitations. Great product for the best price
